How I Work
My mission is simple: I help people heal and thrive. If we met in my office I wouldn't start with advice. I'd start by listening. Most people come in carrying hard stories. Loneliness in a relationship. Anxiety that won't settle. Patterns with sex or porn that feel stuck. The ache of betrayal. My job is to help you make sense of what's happening and take steady, practical steps forward.
I'm Brent Woods. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisiana and Texas and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees at McNeese State University and have been fully licensed since 2018. I see individuals and couples in Lake Charles and online across both states.
Credentials matter, and fit matters too. I keep my training current, but I care most about using skills and tools that make a real difference. We keep it practical, set clear goals, and adjust together as we go. Therapy works best as a real partnership.
Outside the Office
Family is at the center of my life. My spouse and I have been together for more than a decade, and our three loving kids fill the house with noise, laughter, and the small moments that matter. Music has been a steady thread in my life. I love playing and singing with others, and I've served on our church worship team for more than ten years. My faith is an important part of my life.
Music is another big part of my life. As a member of my church's worship team for over ten years, I’ve seen firsthand how music can bridge gaps and bring people together. It’s about creating shared emotional experiences and building a sense of community.
I love to fish, and being on the water calms my soul. My favorite spot is the Lacassine Wildlife Refuge, where the marsh has a pull I can't resist. I also love photography. During the pandemic I started taking pictures and honestly never put the camera down. These days I work with business owners and entrepreneurs on headshots, branding, and corporate photography. It gives me creative freedom in new ways, so I keep a camera in my backpack most places I go.
I know what it takes to juggle responsibilities, repair after conflict, and keep going when life gets messy. I aim for honest, straightforward conversation and practical steps that lead to steady, meaningful change you can feel at home and at work. When you're ready, we'll talk through the next right step, make a plan that fits your life, and take it one manageable move at a time.
If you're thinking about starting therapy, let's keep it simple:

I work in person in Lake Charles and online across Louisiana and Texas. You don't have to carry this alone. If you're ready, we'll start where you are and move one step at a time.
